    I disagree with the too high of a value motor amps when connecting 2, 4 or 6 pole plain jane Nema frame motors that in my 50 years as a commercial electrician covered over 99% of installtions. Of the thousands of motors that I have replaced, moved, installed or PM'ed never came across a single motor that was within 10% of the NEC ampere. Just went 125% of the motor FLA & if a long run would calculate voltage drop and would increase wire size if needed. We had AHU'S that had two 60 to 125 HP motors where both supply motors ran 24/7 but seldom over 50% of full speed and on VFD'S. I could run over 1200 amps of AHU motors from a 800 amp distribution panel for 50 years snd never trip out the 800 amp breaker because of constant reduced speeds feed from VFD'S. Only time a supply motor ran close to full speed was when other motor was down for PM or rare replacement.

    59:58 LOL I used glass tubes flared at the ends and coffee filters to hold the plant matter. The funny part is before we bought the house they improved the wiring and extraction because he wanted to paint cars. It worked out great because not only did I do that but I am a glass blower so I also have a liquid O2 tank and 100lb propane tanks outside of the shop. I try my best to be safe and so far knock on wood I've never had an incident. Unless you count getting burned by hot glass.

    Can you just put gfci breaker in main panel instead of multiple gfci outlets ?

    • @RyanJacksonElectrical
      @RyanJacksonElectrical 8 дней назад

      Yes, although the total leakage current of all combined circuits would need to be less than 4-6mA, otherwise the breaker would trip. That could work, but it also may not work for a given application.

    Since rebar does not come in 1000' lengths (usually max 60'), the sections of rebar would have to be electrically connected together, not just touching with a piece of rebar wire tie around them. Also, unlike a water line whose location is well known and makes a huge mess when it is cut, someone could core or cut into the concrete right through the piece of rebar that is being used as the grounding conductor and never be the wiser.

    As far as arguing with the inspector, the code always defers to the AHJ, Authority having jurisdiction. If the inspector says no, because it's unsafe, and his boss supports him, then it's no. If I was an I inspector, I would not allow under counter recepticals period. I would also push for a local requirement for some sort of safe outlet, since if there are no receptacles people will use dangerous extention cords. Also, I will not install an under counter receptacle

    a big question that I have for you is what would you consider a wet or damp location if you're running UF cable and you just run the wire out there do you need to sleeve it because is that technically a wet or damp location and then also it's in the slab is the UF wire should be rated for that or no?

  • @michaelwade9199

    I work in South Florida on 20-30 million dollar homes on a daily basis and some of the stuff you have to put outlets in with these countertops and these kitchen islands is getting ridiculous not to mention having to work with the cabinet guys themselves is almost impossible to get your stuff landed where it needs to go it's good to know that it's not a requirement now All you have to do is run a sleeve out there but nowadays everybody wants power so you know you got to get them the expensive pop-up outlets that they want underneath the marble countertop it's crazy. Not to mention I'm also pulling separate circuits for whatever ice maker maybe a little cooler disposal dishwasher all that stuff. Thanks for helping me understand between what's required by the code and what you can just do that was pretty cool and it's wild that I'm at this point in my career I find stuff like this fascinating and can't wait to take the test

    This is incredibly informative, thank you. Especially for a DIY idiot like me, lol. The kind of island I want to build will have wheels so it can be rolled out of the way when unused. The one thing I was worried about with an impermanent island was having to wire it to make it more permanent. I don't have small children so there's no risk of pulling, but I don't want the island to be energized because, for our uses, it's not necessary. It'll be like a restaurant prep table, only more finished.

    Thanks Ryan, you helped clarify some of the issues I was having with 230.85. I'm teaching a first year apprentice class and figured that with the disconnect outside you would need to run fully rated conductors into the panel. I also was thinking that with the "Emergency Disconnect" and since it wasn't a service disconnect that you would need to change the 3 wire cable to 4. As long as the panel had a main breaker.

    Hey Ryan i have a question, if you see this i would love to be answered! can you tap a feeder, at any length, so long as you keep the wire size the same as the originating OCD? Example is feeding one MLO panel with a few 20's and a 30 amp breakers in it, tapping onto said feeder via a double lug on said panel, then going 150 feet away, with the same gauge wire, to feed another panel of the same set up. feeder is 100amp wire on a 100 breaker. ???? hope this makes sense. ive never heard of tapping a feeder like it was a branch circuit conductor basically, so it sparked my interest. and although it sparked my feelers, now that i think of it, all three aspects of GF OC and OV are all met throughout, so im just wondering if thats legit? hope this makes sense lol, im sure it doesnt, but id appreciate some input! i can email you a diagram if you are willing to help me brain think gooder! The only thing that i think is violated, is they do not terminate at a breaker or fuse, and have no disconnecting means other than the main breaker that is 100's of feet away, thats what im pretty sure makes this not kosher

    The thing with NM is that the outer sheathing is very soft and is easy to make it round when working with it. The inner THHN conductors will slide over each other. This gives an easy way to picture the diameter. I'm not suggesting one twists the cable, just that I've run into it when working with that crap. I prefer emt, plus in Chicago/Cook County, it's not allowed :)

    Hi Ryan, you almost answered the question I had that brought me to your video. Since this video is 2 years old, I hope I can still pose a question and get an answer back? My question is: can I use a rebar encased electrode, (EEC), bond it to the steel building at that location and then 100' away, bond the 400 amp meter service to the steel building? Rather than running an exposed bare wire up over the ceiling from the meter service to the EEC. Would that qualify as the grounded electrode for the service?
